New Green Construction Code Unveiled

Today the International Code Council (ICC) released Public Version 1.0 of the International Green Construction Code (IGCC).  The new code concerns the construction of new and existing commercial buildings.  The IGCC aims to address sustainability by significantly reducing energy use.  It also addresses sustainable site development and land use, providing for preservation of natural and material resources, as well as energy efficient appliances, renewable energy systems, water resource conservation, rainwater collection systems and distribution systems and the recovery of used water (graywater).

Firethorne files for bankruptcy protection

Firethorne Country Club has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today at Mecklenburg County Superior Court.

Google Adds Biking Directions

It just got easier for people seeking sustainable transportation choices to find there way through cities and communities with dedicated bike lanes and paths.  Google is adding a service for bicycle directions.

They have it for Charlotte too, but it is definitely still in beta.

Canada’s Largest Supermarket Chain Going Solar

Ontario Canada's largest supermarket chain will be putting solar panels on the roofs of four of its supermarkets to start with, but plans to eventually do so on over 100 of its Ontario stores.  Original Article here, press release here.
